FEMA pop-up shelter opens in Buchanan County

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be opening a pop up shelter in Buchanan County on Saturday through Tuesday to help people impacted by the floods that occurred during April 29th through July 5th.

Spokesperson for FEMA, Angela Byrd, says people who were impacted by the floods need to bring a few items to the pop up shelter.

"Usually, it's just stuff that they do have. Have state issued ID to verify themselves.  If they have information pertaining to their property, which would be their primary property that was impacted to the storm.  Even for renters, if they have leasing information. The more they can bring pertaining to verifying themselves and the property that they either own or rent, the better."

Byrd adds you don't have to live in Buchanan County to go to the pop up shelter.

"You don't have to live in Buchanan County.  I mean, you can live in other surrounding counties or areas.  As long as it's in those counties that were in impacted and declared and that fall under the presidential declaration."

The pop up shelter in Buchanan will be located at the Keys Christian Fellowship Church, located at 6002 South 9th Street in St. Joseph. The hours will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There is also a pop up shelter located in Holt County with the same hours and is located at River of Hope Fellowship Church at 27765 U.S. Hwy. 159 in Forest City.
